A new wave of electric vehicles is hitting the streets. The Nissan Leaf, an all-electric vehicle, has been delivered to its first owner in the Seattle area, as has the Chevy Volt. Ford has announced the popular Focus will feature Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Battery Electric models in addition to the gasoline powered version. Somewhere around 10 different battery powered car models will be available for purchase in 2011, according to msnbc.com.
Will you be able to charge your electric vehicle away from home? Across King County there are plans to install some 200 charging stations. Mercer Island was supposed to be at the cutting edge of the electric highway initiative, but according to this report, the city is not able to provide matching dollars to take advantage of Federal funding for installation in the current budget cycle. If your travels take you to Bellevue, however, you’ll be able to take advantage of the new charging station at City Hall and at the Eastgate Park & Ride.
